“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” - Genesis 1:3

Advent is a continuation of the first great event of creation.
Light exploded in the universe in a festival of wonder.
In much the same way, the coming of Jesus is an explosion of grace, power, and God’s presence among us. Emmanuel! God is with us.
We celebrate the light and we light candles to remind us of why we celebrate!
Christmas lights are everywhere and they are exhilarating, beautiful, and nostalgic at the same time.
Yet, just one candle draws us to remember why all the other lights shine.
There would be no light if God had not spoken light into existence. The light of the world is Jesus. He is Word made flesh, God in human form. He is the one True Light who has come into the world to light our paths.
Light one candle and gaze upon it in meditation. Let that candle call to remembrance why we approach this season with such expectation. Remove all other distractions and allow the light of that one candle to draw you into awareness that it is through Jesus that the whole world is alive with the presence of God.
Light one candle within your heart and say in agreement with the God of creation, “Let there be light.”
And there will be light within you.
Open your heart to Christ and let Him shine in and through you.
That will be Christmas!
