"With my whole heart …"
Today, these excerpts from the psalm ring in my heart and speak to this moment of my life. Tomorrow, it will be more, for such is the capacity of scripture to unfold for us and always be new.
"On the day …" THE VERY DAY "… I called, you answered me …"
That is such a powerful unfolding for me and resonates with my experience. Did I always know that He had placed an answer in place? Not always, but most often I have had the second part be true, when the call was true and from my heart:
"…my strength of soul you increased."
Often, that has been all I needed.
I have also found this true in experience:
"For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly,
but the haughty he knows from afar.""
I have been lowly and I have been haughty. When I have been haughty is when I have simply forgotten that I am, in truth, lowly. In my lowly moments before God, I have enjoyed intimacy with God. In my haughty moments, God has been a theory and far off reality to me. Knowing God and being known of God are not about knowledge as we think of knowledge normally; they are about the closeness of the relationship.
""Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life;"
Well, here I am. I have endured a few things and seen a lot of trouble, but I'm not dead yet.
"The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands."
This is enough and more than enough for me – to live on purpose, God's purpose. As long as He fulfills that, but His steadfast, enduring love, I will live out the rest of my days and die with satisfaction.
Here is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God:
"I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
your name and your word.
On the day I called, you answered me;
my strength of soul you increased."
"All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O LORD,
for they have heard the words of your mouth,
and they shall sing of the ways of the LORD,
for great is the glory of the LORD.
For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly,
but the haughty he knows from afar."
"Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and your right hand delivers me.
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands."
