Psalm 69 is the cry of a person who is up to his neck in negative potential.

Things could go either way, but all indications are for the worst. Have you been there? Did you come through? So did he. He did so through all the fears, feelings of rejection, taunts, and pain that he describes in the subsequent verses, but he did come through.

In verse 29, he makes an audaciously bold prayer, "But I am afflicted and in pain; let your salvation, O God, set me on high!"

He asks that, through his pain, that he might experience salvation and exaltation.

He is in the public light and subject to public exposure and criticism, which he receives. But he also knows that when he is delivered, people will see. He does not wish for his fall to bring down those who look up to him, but he wants his salvation to encourage those who are watching.

Such is the authentic transparent life of a struggler who trusts in God.

"When the humble see it they will be glad;
you who seek God, let your hearts revive.
For the Lord hears the needy
and does not despise his own people who are prisoners." (32-33)
