How to we begin to comprehend God?

How do we begin to comprehend the universe?

Is it an exercise in utter futility to know the unknowable and comprehend the incomprehensible?

If you are looking for a beginning, here is one – The greatness of God – not a mere meme or a trite truism.

As in the "fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom," we become wiser as we learn that we cannot be wise enough to fathom God.

"Great"is a strong, but inadequate adjective for God.

All superlatives in our language dissolve into the glory of His presence. I cannot know all there is to know of Him and knowledge of lack of knowledge informs me that He is God and I am not.

I may not be able to fully know Him, but I can know Him because I am known of Him and He draws me closer daily.

" Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised,
and his greatness is unsearchable."

(Psalm 145:3 ESV)

Our response, then, is "fear" and by that, we mean awe, reverence, and these two, expressed in worship.

From there, and through that, we seek and keep seeking and beholding.

One simply needs a loose jaw because it will surely drop.
