Some years ago, I was after a mouse in my house.

This mouse was playing cat and mouse with me and he was just inviting me to play along.

The dog has been trying to be the cat to no avail.

I had that little booger cornered in the pantry on one of those nights, but never quite knew what I'd do with him if I caught him.

The one thing I knew was that I would not have killed the little fellow …

I would have taken him to a happier and safer place…

… but he didn't know that …

… so he resisted me …

Still he was quite the risk-taker.

He would have been far better off with me than with the cat or the dog.

I am not sure what came of it all. I have either forgotten or never knew.

But I have this memory and reflection to ponder and I offer it to you to do with as you will.
