In this morning's Advent readings, I saw people being challenged to change their thinking.
Jesus asked questions that upset the mental lethargy of his detractors.
John, in the Revelation has to adjust his eyes to a new way of seeing Jesus.
Amos the prophet is called upon to step out of the comfort zone of his own self-concept and do something different.
You and I are always being encouraged and required to reorder our old thinking as well. We must do so to meet new challenges and face new perplexities.
Sometimes, we need a complete overhaul.
You may not be able to change all your thinking at once, but you could start with something.
1. Evaluate – Is there something in my thinking that is getting the results I do not want?2. Excavate – What is the source of that thinking? Is it possible that I am moving on a belief about myself, others, or reality that has no validity?3. Eradicate – Abandon that belief, if only for a moment. Seek God's help and a new perspective.4. Emancipate – Free yourself to move into a new reality where you can pursue your new dreams with new behaviors and new attitudes. See what happens… then CELEBRATE!
Let us pray.
This is a new day, God of hope.
It has not been fully formed.
A million choices will frame it and fill in the blanks.
Some are ours; some are others' and then …
There is nature and nature's choice's.
We know this, at the end of the day, not one eternal purpose of Yours
will be thwarted,
Not one soul will be out of Your sight,
Not one thought will escape Your notice, and
All who will be guided, will be guided by Your hand.
I will be; guide me.
Amen.
