On this date in 1865, during the American Civil War: Robert E. Lee surrenders the Army of Northern Virginia (26,765 troops) to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia.
Appomattox Court House in Virginia has a sign that says, "where our nation reunited."
It always moved me to see it as I drove through.
It is the site where Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, marking the beginning of the end of the Civil War.
However, it is not entirely true.
We've had waves where the swells have made it almost true.
But the work of making it true and keeping it true is constant.
