Live well.
Live wisely.
Live unselfishly.
Make a difference in the world.
You might be the one who saves the city and are then forgotten. You may be the reason people go on living prosper and enjoy the fruits peace.
But you get no credit, no reward, no monuments, and no honor. None of that will matter to you because you are wise. Your integrity is your reward. Your truth and telling of truth are your satisfaction.
They compose the lullaby that lulls you to sleep at night and awakens you the next day.
You, though poor, are wise and you are generous with your wisdom to those who will hear and heed.
Wisdom is your joy.
Truth is your wealth.
Peace is your protector.
Love is your food.
God is your rewarder and your reward.
You are happy
I have also seen this example of wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me. There was a little city with few people in it. A great king came against it and besieged it, building great siegeworks against it. Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that poor man. So I said, “Wisdom is better than might; yet the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heeded.”
The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded
than the shouting of a ruler among fools.
Wisdom is better than weapons of war,
but one bungler destroys much good.
