Care to Lead a Blameless Life
I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will conduct the affairs of my house with a blameless heart. –New International Version Psalm 101:2
Here is a fellow that had adjusted his thinking toward God and is already making music to God with his heart. Now, he is considering his ways.
1. He ponders and asks the hard questions, “If I were to always do the right thing, what would that look like?” (“I will ponder the way that is blameless”) We need a vision of what the right thing might look like if we were to consistently do it. That calls for some reflection and reflection calls for some devoted time and space.
2. He pines away in a posture of longing (“When will you come to me?”). Real clarity, in his view, flows from proximity to God and a compelling sense of His presence in the moment. Whereas pondering takes time and space, pining takes full engagement of the whole person seeking God.
3. He proceeds to practice in his own house and sphere of influence. Whatever he knows to do, he does. Whatever seems, to the best of his knowledge, to be the guidance of the moment, after deep longing and patient seeking, he puts into practice where he is. He might fail, but he will do it with integrity. Integrity is having our actions fully integrated with our convictions under God.
Practice will make permanent.
Hopefully, that gives you some exploring territory. I am moving on to the next verse and you can ponder that on your own, pine for God, and practice what you know to do. God bless you and good morning.

The Rest of the Psalm (NRSVU)
Psalm 101
Misericordiam ed judicium
I will sing of mercy and justice; *
to you, O Lord, will I sing praises.
I will strive to follow a blameless course;
oh, when will you come to me? *
I will walk with sincerity of heart within my house.
I will set no worthless thing before my eyes; *
I hate the doers of evil deeds;
they shall not remain with me.
A crooked heart shall be far from me; *
I will not know evil.
Those who in secret slander their neighbors I will destroy; *
those who have a haughty look and a proud heart I cannot abide.
My eyes are upon the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me, *
and only those who lead a blameless life shall be my servants.
Those who act deceitfully shall not dwell in my house, *
and those who tell lies shall not continue in my sight.
I will soon destroy all the wicked in the land, *
that I may root out all evildoers from the city of the Lord.
