For Taking a Boot to the Butt

On this day in 1635 – Roger Williams is banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony after religious and policy disagreements.

This was a critical moment in American history and religious history, as well as in the fermenting of democratic, pluralistic values

Williams swam in the waters of baptistic influence and beyond. He founded the first Baptist church in America, the City of Providence, and the state of Rhode Island.

Freedom of thought and religion were held dear to him, and he established a colony based upon those values.

But before that, he was kicked out of Massachusetts.

Some good people stayed behind in the colony and did some good things.

But thank God for Williams who was willing the take a boot in the butt for his convictions.

How many are willing today?
