Born this day in the world of arts..

The Arts Teach Us

That none of us is ever truly alone as long as we can create and behold beauty.

And Thus, the Arts

Marcel Marceau taught us that a human being can speak volumes without uttering a sound.

Chico Marx showed us that silence itself can dance if music is near.

Ernest Lawson taught us that realism is not everything in art, because art does more than reproduce what the eye sees. It interprets what the soul knows.

Andrew Lloyd Webber reminds us that even in the darkest night, music survives, and that memory is one of the deep chambers of the heart.

Stephen Sondheim reminds us that no one is alone and that children will listen long after we think they have stopped hearing.

And thus, the arts.

They evoke and make our memories.

We need them because facts alone are not enough.
We need them because sorrow needs melody.
We need them because joy needs color.
We need them because truth sometimes enters quietly, sideways, through image, gesture, stage light, or song.

So, send in the clowns.
