Preparing for Tomorrow’s Sermon
There were two people who knew something.
One was Jesus.
Jesus knew where a donkey and her colt would be. He knew what his disciples needed to say:
“The Lord has need of them.”
And he knew that the person responsible for the animals would release them.
The other person who knew something was the keeper of the donkey and colt. Perhaps he knew that someone was coming. Perhaps he had been prepared to hear the words:
“The Lord has need of them.”
How was all of this worked out?
You can find all sorts of human explanations, and one of them may have factored into the story.
But it is also possible that the same God who spoke to Jesus had spoken to the keeper of the animals. Perhaps God told Jesus, “This is going to work,” and told the keeper, “This is going to happen.”
God arranged the details.
We can get hung up on those details if we like. But here is the point I want to leave with you:
When God needs something—or when God’s people need something—God is the great Arranger.
God arranged for the animal Jesus would ride into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday.
And God can arrange the people, opportunities, resources, and circumstances we need to do what he has called us to do.
When the Lord calls, the Lord also prepares the way.
